Musically speaking, the radio airwaves in the Twin Cities have been a barren landscape for some time. Rarely could you expect to find as few as three songs in a row on a single station that wouldn't have you stabbing for the dial.
I'm afraid that the situation was not improved with this week's introduction of Love 105. As the Strib reported earlier, Drive 105 is looking for some radio Love: After four years of mostly unimpressive ratings and two years of hip competition from the Current (89.3 FM), Twin Cities alternative-rock station Drive 105-FM will change this morning to a new nostalgic format dubbed "Love 105." Not that I was a hugh fan of the "alternative contemporary" format or whatever the heck they called what Drive 105 played previously, but at least it occasionally spun a decent platter that was produced in the 21st century. And that fact that they were forced into a format change because of competition from the taxpayer-funded Current doesn't exactly warm my heart either. Some hipster doofuses (like Atomizer) swear by the Current, but its "ecletic" mix of music does nothing for me. And from what I've heard so far, I'm not going to be feeling much love listening to the stale love songs and wuss jazz offered up by Love 105 either. Sigh. Thank God for Ipods and talk radio.
